I joined the team as a Product Designer, leading the interface design for a mobile application and working directly with researchers, stakeholders and developers. My main responsibilities include:
The user research for OurSleepKit can be found here.
Using OurSleepKit, both the patient and partner will complete subjective periodic assessmentstracking various aspects of their sleep and PAP use.
The assessment data are then processed to generate a Coaching Board which provides customized and dynamically updated support content –principally brief story-telling videos featuring real-life couples’ experiences.
To help the couple learn, the application also have the learning tab to store story-telling videos of real-life couple’s experiences emphasizing positive dyadic coping and problem-solving strategies.
In addition, there are short-form content like fun facts to offer concise and engaging information for easy consumption.
The profile section includes a longitudinal tracking of perceived sleep quality and CPAP use to monitor progress toward goals.
Existing interventions promoting PAP adherence focus only on the diagnosed individual and are delivered mostly by health professionals, with limited success. Typically, the partner's complaints of patient snoring and disrupted sleep trigger sleep clinic referral for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).
Successful treatment impacts both the patient and the partner, with both demonstrating decreased sleepiness, greater sleep quality, and improved social, emotional, and relationship functioning.
I looked into and tried existing apps targeted toward CPAP and sleep apnea. The overarching problem I identified was that products were too niche, specifically only focus on the patient's sleep and CPAP usage rather than the interaction with the patient's partners, even though partners are affected by the patient's sleep apnea. Therefore, for the focus of this application, I want to highlight the interaction between patient and partner, and how patient's progress can positively impact the couple's relationship and growth.
The content of each feature will be tailored depending on which phase of CPAP use the patient is in:
Since they was the main drawing point for the application, I started with some rough wireframes and began refining them.
I created a clear visual identity for the application – typefaces, colors, wordmarks, logotypes, etc.
